Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) joined the Metro-Nashville Police Department (MNPD) on Friday, Nov. 6, to install the first MNPD “Little Library,” as part of their initiative to bring the joy of reading and books to low-income neighborhoods. GELF donated over 1,000 books to MNPD to fill five neighborhood libraries in West Nashville.
“Life may look different right now, in our classrooms and our communities, but we must focus on what we can do to support student learning and instill hope and resilience in our neighborhoods,” said James Pond, president of GELF. “Books provide an escape, an outlet and a bond to support social-emotional needs and strengthen early literacy skills for children. We are honored to partner with the Metro-Nashville Police Department to build a community classroom and foster lifelong learners.”
